What accessories are included with a refurbished iPhone?
A refurbished iPhone typically comes with a charging cable, but the full list of included accessories depends on the refurbisher. You can compare resellers' included accessories here.
Apple Store refurbished accessories
Apple Certified Refurbished iPhones come with the same accessories as a brand-new iPhone:
- USB-C to Lightning cable (or USB-C cable for iPhone 15 and later)
- For older models (iPhone 11 and earlier purchased before 2020), a power adapter was also included
Apple no longer includes EarPods or a power adapter with new iPhones starting from iPhone 12, and the same applies to their refurbished stock.
Third-party refurbisher accessories
Most third-party refurbishers include a more limited set of accessories:
- Back Market sellers typically include a charging cable and sometimes a generic power adapter. Accessories may not be original Apple parts.
- Amazon Renewed includes a charging cable and a generic power adapter in most cases.
- Other refurbishers vary, but you can generally expect at least a charging cable.
What is almost never included from third-party sellers:
- EarPods or headphones
- Original Apple packaging (the phone arrives in the refurbisher's own box)
- Screen protectors or cases
What has changed and what to buy separately
Apple has progressively reduced included accessories. iPhone 12 and later no longer ship with EarPods or a power adapter, and iPhone 15 and later use USB-C instead of Lightning. Refurbished stock follows the same pattern.
If you need extras, consider buying these before your refurbished iPhone arrives:
- A USB-C power adapter (20W or higher) for fast charging on iPhone 8 and later.
- A protective case and screen protector to keep your device in top condition.
- Wireless earbuds like refurbished AirPods if you need audio accessories.
