These are Apple's official ratings. Real-world battery life runs lower once you factor in volume, Active Noise Cancellation, Spatial Audio, and the slow capacity loss that comes with every charge cycle. Apple no longer publishes a talk-time figure for any of these models, so the listening rating is the one to plan around.

Apple announced a second generation, AirPods Max 2 with the H2 chip, on 16 March 2026, and the same 4 to 5 year estimate applies to it, since the battery and over-ear design have not changed.
